About...

What is AR Junkie?
AR Junkie is a blog for and about those few (but growing) madmen who practice the sport of AR in the Garden Route, SA. It is where stories can be shared about despite the pain, we love this sport so much. It is also a place where tips can be given (if we have anything useful). It is a site created to hopefully inform and even more hopefully ultimately unite the local AR community.

Okay...I see...Now what the hell is "AR"?
"AR" is the cooler sounding and quite widespread acronym for Adventure Racing. Wikipedia states that "Adventure racing is a combination of two or more endurance disciplines, including orienteering (if an orienteering map is used) and/or navigation (when non-orienteering maps are used), cross-country running, mountain biking, paddling and blah blah blah..."
To those who actually do it, it's a way of life, which involves getting out into the great blue yonder and packing as many different activities as possible in a single event into it. It requires you to vasbyt and slog away, and sometimes as you are doing it, you feel that you are going through hell, but when you are at the finish line, in retrospect, it all seems worth it.

At age 16, he hopes this won't lead to a burn out, due to the fantastic array of outdoor sporting events available in the area, particularly during the feverish 10 days of the Pick 'n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival, which is a time where every cyclist, runner, biathlete and canoeist feels as though they have died and gone to heaven.
